Celebrating Moms!

Dear Gala Guru,

My Mother is now deceased but when I was pregnant she came to stay with me to wait for the baby that was coming. She arrived with a pink sweater knowing that the baby was going to be a girl even though I had not had an ultra sound to determine the sex of the baby. One week before her granddaughter (yes it was a girl) arrived we decided to wait it out by going to a movie. We arrive after the lights had gone down and fumbled our way through a darkened theater in the middle of the day. I found my seat and my dear Mother came in behind me and sat down with her butter topped bucket of popcorn and took a seat, only to hear another woman say oh I am sorry this seat is taken, she had sat down on the lap of another woman in a theater that was virtually empty in the middle of the day, then the woman started to scream, "Please can't you find another seat. I was sitting right next to her and had a lap full myself as I was nine months pregnant plus, I started to laugh so hard that, well you know what happens to pregnant woman. My Mother was mortified and went to sit in the empty back row of the theater. I couldn't move and I kept laughing at the woman next to me during the entire movie because of the fact that I knew my Dear Mother was mortified sitting alone at the back of the movie. Dearest proper woman I've ever know and could she find things to bring her joy and laugh about!!!! Miss her dearly!

Photo Fiasco

Dear Gala Guru,

I am a photographer and was recently hired to take photos at a corporate event. After I got back to my office and looked at the photos I was horrified to see that the most important photo of the entire evening was unusable! The photo is of all the company VIPs and one of the VIPs is a lady in a tight, scoop neck top. With the camera flash and the sheerness of the fabric she was wearing, you can see right through the top to her undergarments, which by the way were very minimalist. It is the only shot with all the VIP’s in one grouping and the one shot they want to use in their corporate magazine and newsletters. I am horrified as this has never happened to me before. What do I tell my client? My reputation is at stake not to mention my salary. Please help, any advice?

A Literary Journey!

“The publisher wants just a few changes”! “What now”? I asked, totally ready to drop kick this woman into another planet! “Well, they um really would like to see it go in um a totally different direction”, she announced casually. Ahhhhhhhh, this was really the final straw.

Two and half years, 8 rewrites, and at least a dozen edits later, I finally made the decision to just do this myself. Sometime depending on someone else can be more frustrating than helpful. I know rejection is part of business, but this takes the cake. Not really rejection, not really acceptance…not really anything concrete. It was maddening! I felt as though I was just being strung along and one cannot live in limbo for long without being medicated. But persistence has paid off….more good news to come next week!

Today we celebrate the Vernal Equinox, also known as the first day of spring! The vernal equinox is one of two days during the year when day and night are of equal length. The vernal equinox is when the sun crosses the equator northward and marks the beginning of spring

Here at Gala Guru World Headquarters we plan to celebrate the equinox by the wearing of spring clothing (even though it is only 30 degrees out, but you gotta be in the spirit of things!) as well as decorating the Equinox tree and the singing of traditional Equinox carols. We hope all your Equinox wishes come true.

Time to Celebrate!

Looking to get lucky???? Time to get your green on! Saint Patrick’s Day is this week-end and marks the cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March inDublin,Ireland.

One doesn’t have to be Irish to celebrate this special occasion. Just put on some green, and river dance your way down to your favorite Irish pub for a celebration. Just follow the bagpipe music … knock back your favorite green ale and kiss a leprechaun for good luck.

Who knows, you may find your own pot o gold at the end of the evening as you take in the culture of the holiday!
